The
downturn of the economy has adversely affected many individuals and
businesses, including the Oak Lawn Park District. A lot of tough
decisions have had to be made in order to keep the park district running
smoothly without having to drastically increase fees for programs and
services.
Some of the temporary changes include the reduction of staff, cancellation
of the Memorial Day and Labor Day events, reduction of hours of operation
at facilities and the pools and a change over to volunteer staff for
rangers and starters at the golf course.
Summer is a busy season at the park district with golf, day camps,
leagues, lessons and aquatic programs. We hope that you will bear with us
as we deal with these changes in order to better serve you.
Even with these temporary changes, the Oak Lawn Park District has a fun
year planned. This summer do not forget to check out the free concerts and
movies in the park and the annual July 4th event at Centennial Park and
the evening fireworks at Richards High School. Cool off at one of the
three pools, play miniature golf, play tennis or basketball at one of the
many outdoor courts or just swing on a swing at the park. There is no
better time than now to enjoy all that the park district has to offer.
We hope that next year will find us all in a much better position so that
we will be able to return to business as usual. We look forward to the
coming months and to better things on the horizon.
