Swim Lesson Instructor

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Swim Lesson Instructors for the 2016 Indoor Swim Lessons Season.  Lessons are held on Saturdays between 9:30am and 2:30pm at the Richard’s High School Pool and Oak Lawn High School on Saturdays from 9am-12pm. The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.  Starting wage for Swim Lesson Instructors is 9.00 per hour.  Prior Swim knowledge is required and WSI Certification is a plus.

Qualifications:

1.Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
2.Friendly, outgoing personality, positive attitude and the ability to work well with others in a team oriented environment.
3.Prior swim lessons teaching experience preferred.
4.Must enjoy working with children.
5.This position is responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
6.Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies.
7.Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons
8.Submits completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time.

Community Pavilion

 

Community Pavilion Part-time Maintenance Custodian

                The Part-Time Maintenance Custodian position is responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance work in the Community Pavilion and its immediate surrounding grounds. The employee is under the direct supervision of the maintenance supervisor.

.Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Knowledge of cleaning supplies and basic tools.

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

  • Must be able to work independently

  • Must have decision making Skills

  • Must be able to take initiative with task.

  • Communication skills.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Cleans and washes floors, walls, and windows.

  • Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies.

  • Empties waste and other thrash.

  • Clean weight room equipment.

  • Change Light Bulbs.

  • Cleans adjacent grounds for litter and sweeps walks.

  • Cleans and maintains locker and shower rooms including replenishing supplies.

  • Act as a watchman when necessary.

  • Submits daily check sheets of work performed.

  • Setup and takedown of volleyball equipment, tables, chairs, party rentals, and other programs as needed.

  • Clean all gym courts and surrounding area.

  • Obey and enforce rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Oak Lawn Park District.

  • Performs other task as needed by Maintenance Supervisor.

Marginal Functions:

  • Moves furniture and equipment as needed.

  • Reports building repairs.

  • Shovels snow.

  • Operates gas powered snow blower.

  • Spreads salt on sidewalks.

Psychological Considerations:

  • Must work closely with others.

  • Must work around the general public and patrons in the facility.

  • Must work under the supervision and directions of superiors.

  • Able to multi-task and prioritize well.

  • Must be able to communicate with staff and patrons in a friendly and professional manner.

 

Physical Considerations

  • Must be able to work 12 to 19 hours per week.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to stand, move and perform labor activities for long periods of time.

Environmental Considerations

  • Custodian is exposed to outside weather conditions 10 percent of the time, including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain, and ice.

  • Protective clothing is required as follows: ear plugs, safety glasses/goggles, protective gloves, and protective equipment needed for specific job task.

  • Worker is exposed to chemicals including but not limited to cleaning supplies, weed killers, oils, and gasoline.

Cognitive Considerations:

  • Must be able to follow directions form supervisor.

  • Must be able to follow task list completely.

  • Must use good safety awareness and judgment at all times.

  • Able to communicate well verbally and in writing.

DESCRIPTION
The FLASH Recreation Leader position is a part time/seasonal position. The FLASH Recreation Leader works directly with the participants and is directly responsible for leading daily activities and interacting with the participants at their assigned FLASH location. This may include a wide variety of responsibilities including supervision of participants, the set up and clean up of snack, games, crafts and activities and to contribute to lesson plans. The ideal candidate will be mature, responsible and have a great attitude. The candidate should have the ability to effectively communicate with children and adults.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 16 years old
Experience working with children ages K-5th grade.

HOURS (Typical)
Morning Shift: 6:45AM - 8:45AM
Afternoon Shift: 3:00PM - 6:00PM

The FLASH Site Coordinator position is a part time/seasonal position. The FLASH Site Director position is directly responsible for overseeing the daily operations at their assigned FLASH school location. This will include a wide variety of responsibilities including supervision of childcare staff and participants at their particular site, weekly preparation of lesson plans, communication with participants, their parents, school personnel, and his/her direct supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 21 years or older
Experience working with children ages K-5th grade.
Supervisory experience preferred
Must be available for both morning and afternoon shifts.

Ice Arena

Part time Ice Arena Building Supervisor & Zamboni Driver

Job Qualifications

This position requires:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Leadership ability
  • Communication skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Illinois drivers license
  • Specialized training will be necessary to develop skills for the operation of the Zamboni
  • Experience with Ice Arena programs is helpful

Job Responsibilities

Building supervisors are responsible for those tasks necessary to supervise and oversee daily operations. The arena supervisor works to maintain cleanliness, sanitation and safety of the facility. The supervisor performs and supervises routine custodial and general maintenance-primarily in the public use areas. They operate the Ice Resurfacer and related preparations to keep the ice clean, safe, and on schedule. Following cash control and closing procedures and other tasks as assigned. The work environment is moderate to very busy, depending upon the task. They generally work evening, and weekend shifts.  Building Supervisors will report to the Ice Arena Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise part-time maintenance and guard staff.
  • Resurfaces the ice with Zamboni after all sessions.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons at all times.
  • Lift 20lbs over head repeatedly.
  • Monitor all activities on the ice and throughout the facility.
  • Monitors, reports and corrects all safety hazards for both patrons and employees.
  • Follow all Oak Lawn Park District Safety procedures.
  • Employee must have the ability to follow and give directions
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Employee must use good safety awareness and judgment in all aspects of this position
  • Employee must be able to work effectively with management and co-workers
  • Employee must be aware of and follow all Park District and Arena policies

Skate Guard
Applicants must have strong skating experience.
The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.
The skate guard is responsible for handing out skates and maintaining an organized atmosphere in the skate rental room.
The skate guard has a large amount of contact with the public.
Guards are also responsible for general custodial duties throughout the building during every shift.
Applicant must be able to work evenings and varied weekend shifts.

Scorekeeper for Adult League games
Applicants must have knowledge of the game of hockey.
Scorekeepers must be detail-oriented and be able to multi-task during busy games.
Scorekeepers are also responsible for general custodial duties to assist Supervisor-on-duty with cleaning the building before closing.
Applicant must be able to work late weekday and weekend evenings.

Cheer Tumbling Lead Instructor Wanted
The Oak Lawn Park District is now accepting applications for a lead instructor position for Cheer Tumbling classes. Must be an experienced high level tumbling coach who has strong leadership skills and strong knowledge of cheerleading. Pirouettes Gymnastics program is looking for someone who loves working with pre-teens & teenagers in a friendly work environment with motivated staff in a professional setting. Internships

Note: If you are not a current student studying recreation, sports management or a related field you DO NOT qualify for an internship at the Oak Lawn Park District.
 
The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work
The Oak Lawn Park District has positions available at the Oak View Center and the Community Pavilion.

An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: July 1st
