Lifeguard 

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Lifeguard Positions for the Summer 2016 Pool Season. Lifeguards are responsible to ensuring the safety of patrons including accident prevention in the water and on surrounding areas and the rescue and care of accident victims. Starting wage is $8.25 per hour. 

 Qualifications: 

  1. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.

  2. American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or the ability to obtain.

  3. American Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer certification or the ability to obtain.

  4. Possess the ability to swim 500 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes and the ability to retrieve a 10-lb brick from the bottom of the deep well.

  5. Ability to relate to staff and patrons in a positive manner that represents our agency.

  Swim Lesson Coordinator

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for the Swim Lessons Coordinator for the Summer 2016 Pool season to begin the week the first week of June. The Oak Lawn Park District Swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. The Coordinator will be responsible for organizing class rosters, assigning swim instructors to classes, ensuring lesson plans are written and adhered to, supervising staff, and communications with parents and the Aquatic Director. Starting wage for Swim Lesson Coordinator is $11.00 per hour. Requires mornings, early evenings and Saturday’s. Swim knowledge is required and WSI certification preferred. 

 Qualifications:

  1. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

  2. Friendly, outgoing personality, positive attitude and the ability to work well with others in a team oriented environment.

  3. Prior swim lessons teaching experience preferred.

COMMUNITY PAVILION 

Building Maintenance Supervisor

Salary: $38,000 - $40,000 (Hiring Range - depending on experience)

Description:

SUMMARY:

The Building Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for all building maintenance to include construction trades, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and snow removal. The Building Maintenance Supervisor directly supervises the Building Maintenance staff.

SUPERVISORY:

The Building Maintenance Supervisor reports directly to the Pavilion Manager. All Pavilion maintenance employees directly report to the Building Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Inspect, repair and maintain any in-house facility needs for the Park District. This includes, but not limited to the carpentry, electrical, plumbing, aquatic and HVAC maintenance at the Community Pavilion • Maintain long term preventative maintenance plan for the Community Pavilion. • Work with outside contractors to ensure all construction, repair and maintenance specifications are met for the facility.  • Manage and perform in-house projects related to repairs of various areas within the Park District. • Maintain accurate and complete records of preventative maintenance activities.  • Assist with set up, construction, and repair of special event materials. • Manage and directly perform the organization and care of the department tools and equipment. • Complete inspections on facilities and Park District equipment. • Plan and prepare payroll and performance appraisal for building maintenance staff. • Communicate effectively with department heads, supervisors and other staff members.  • Assist with preparation and monitor the annual budget for the Community Pavilion. • Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in all communication. • Performs the job in a safe manner and in compliance with the District policies, procedures, work and safety rules and the personnel manual. • Operation of Park District vehicles and equipment.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist and perform horticulture, landscaping, athletic field preparation and snow removal from parking lots at Centennial Park when needed. • Assist the park staff with landscaping projects or park repairs. • Assist with special events and attend as needed. • Attends conferences and workshops to promote knowledge in related areas of responsibility. • Must be able to deal with people under stressful and demanding situations. • Performs other duties as assigned.

PSYCHOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations. • Ability to work in a team atmosphere. • Ability to utilize computer skills, including proficiencies in word processing and basic spreadsheet applications. • Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment. • Must be able to deal with people under stressful and demanding situations. • Must be able to function under stressful situations when first aid or CPR is required. • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with department heads, supervisors and other staff members.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• General work area is indoors, in a smoke-free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. • Perform tasks that require walking, bending, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, climbing, reaching, pulling and/or pushing, grasping, carrying, color determination, and near acuity. • Drives motorized vehicle to travel to different locations. • Perform duties that require physical manual labor. • Perform lifting tasks up to 50 pounds. Loads over 50 pounds must be lifted with mechanical assistance or assistance from others. • Passing a pre-employment physical and drug test is required for this position.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:

Worker is exposed to outside weather conditions 40% of the time, including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain and ice. Protective clothing is required as follows: Earplugs, ear covers, helmets, respirators, safety goggles/glasses, leather type work boot, protective gloves, and other PPE’s as needed.

HOURS:

The Building Maintenance Supervisor is a full time hourly position working a minimum of 40 hours per week. The scheduled work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, including 1 unpaid hour for lunch. This position might require night and weekend work, and the work hours will need to be adjusted accordingly. The Building Maintenance Supervisor is on call 24 hours a day for emergencies.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

A minimum of 4 years experience in the construction trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and framing and drywall is preferred. Must be or have the ability to be certified in CPR, First Aid and AED within one (1) year of employment. A Bachelors degree in Parks and Recreation, trade school or related field is preferred, but not necessary. Supervisory experience is preferred. In good physical condition with sufficient strength to lift and hold 50 pounds. Knowledge of computers with experience in MS Excel and Word as well as service request database. A valid Illinois Driver's License is required.

Part-time Maintenance Custodian

The Part-Time Maintenance Custodian position is responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance work in the Community Pavilion and its immediate surrounding grounds. The employee is under the direct supervision of the maintenance supervisor.

Part-time Freestyle Ice Monitor - Ice Arena

The Ice Monitors are responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct and ensuring the safety of all skaters during Freestyle/practice skating sessions. Ice Monitors maintain attendance for sessions, and are responsible for payments and cash control procedures. Ice Monitors will make certain that participants respect all skaters, Ice Monitors and coaches, maintain ice when needed and allow the program skater to have the right-of-way to increase the safety of all participants.  Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents is essential.

Must be able to:

  • provide exceptional customer service
  • work a varied schedule as required
  • use good judgment and discretion as needed
  • perform a variety of tasks in a busy atmosphere

Job Responsibilities

Building supervisors are responsible for those tasks necessary to supervise and oversee daily operations. The arena supervisor works to maintain cleanliness, sanitation and safety of the facility. The supervisor performs and supervises routine custodial and general maintenance-primarily in the public use areas. They operate the ice resurfacer and related preparations to keep the ice clean, safe, and on schedule. Following cash control and closing procedures and other tasks as assigned. Work place is moderate to very busy, depending upon the task. They generally work day, evening, and weekend shifts.  Building Supervisors report to the Ice Arena Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise part-time maintenance and guard staff.
  • Operates ice resurfacer after all sessions.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons at all times.
  • Lift 20lbs over head repeatedly.
  • Monitor all activities on the ice and throughout the facility.
  • Monitors, reports and corrects all safety hazards for both patrons and employees.
  • Follow all Oak Lawn Park District Safety procedures.

Applicants must have strong skating experience.
The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.
The skate guard is responsible for handing out skates and maintaining an organized atmosphere in the skate rental room.
The skate guard has a large amount of contact with the public.
Guards are also responsible for general custodial duties throughout the building during every shift.

The Oak View Center is looking for an enthusiastic part-time instructor to teach private guitar lessons for ages 8 and up. Individuals must possess a vast knowledge of music, different styles of guitar, and skill in playing guitar. A minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching guitar preferred.  Individuals must be able to communicate with parents and children. CPR/AED certification is a plus. Hours vary and are flexible to candidate’s schedule. Pay depends on qualifications. Experienced Girls Team/Developmental Gymnastics Coach POSITION AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY
The Oak Lawn Park District's Pirouettes Gymnastics program is looking for Experienced Girls Team and Development Coaches to join our team. We have a very strong team program in place with USAG Levels 5-9 and In-house Level 4 program. We are looking for Team Coaches who love working with kids in a friendly work environment with motivated staff and in a professional setting. Part Time hours, Pay will be based on experience. Golf Shop Staff & Customer Service Team Member
The Pro Shop staff member provides customer service at the golf facility. He/she performs a variety of tasks for the daily check-in of patrons, the sale of merchandise, and the registration for golf programming.

 

Hour and Employment Period:
This is a part time seasonal position (10-35 hours per week depending on applicants availability and experience). Must be 21 years of age.

 

Pay $9 / hour


Part-time Cook

Stony Creek Golf and Banquet Facility in Oak Lawn is looking for part-time cooks for our Bar & Grill and Banquet Events. Must work nights, weekends and holidays. (max. 20 hrs per wk) flexible schedule available. 2 year experience required. Must have Food Sanitation Certificate prior to start. We are a smoke free employer. Please include salary requirements.


Bartenders & Wait/Banquet Server

Stony Creek Golf and Banquet Facility in Oak Lawn is looking for part-time Bartenders and Waitress/Banquet Server for our Bar & Grill and Banquet Events. Must work nights, weekends and holidays. Internships

Note: If you are not a current student studying recreation, sports management or a related field you DO NOT qualify for an internship at the Oak Lawn Park District.

 
The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work
The Oak Lawn Park District has positions available at the Oak View Center and the Community Pavilion.

An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: July 1st
