Swim Lesson Instructor

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Swim Lesson Instructors for the 2014-2015 Indoor Swim Lessons Season to begin Saturday, October 11.  Lessons are held on Saturdays between 9:30am and 2:30pm at the Richard’s High School Pool.  The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.  Starting wage for Swim Lesson Instructors is 9.00 per hour.  Prior Swim knowledge is required and WSI Certification is a plus.

Qualifications:

1.Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
2.Friendly, outgoing personality, positive attitude and the ability to work well with others in a team oriented environment.
3.Prior swim lessons teaching experience preferred.
4.Must enjoy working with children.
5.This position is responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
6.Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies.
7.Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons
8.Submits completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time.

Front Desk Attendant

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Front Desk Attendant position is a part time non-IMRF position.
The position is responsible for assisting customers with activity registration and payment for facility usage.
The front desk attendant will work directly supervised by the Assistant Pavilion Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Checking I.D’s for memberships
  • Collecting cash for services rendered
  • Collecting and processing registrations
  • Processing new and renewed memberships
  • Answering phones, questions and patron inquiries
  • Opening and closing shifts
  • Activating and deactivating alarm system
  • Take rental permits
  • Unlocking and locking doors when building opens and closes
  • Depositing money and registrations with completed batches
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons

Marginal Functions

  • Report inappropriate behavior and activities Make calls as directed to patrons

DESCRIPTION
The FLASH Recreation Leader position is a part time/seasonal position. The FLASH Recreation Leader works directly with the participants and is directly responsible for leading daily activities and interacting with the participants at their assigned FLASH location. This may include a wide variety of responsibilities including supervision of participants, the set up and clean up of snack, games, crafts and activities and to contribute to lesson plans. The ideal candidate will be mature, responsible and have a great attitude. The candidate should have the ability to effectively communicate with children and adults.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 16 years old
Experience working with children ages K-5th grade.

HOURS (Typical)
Morning Shift: 6:45AM - 8:45AM

 Skate Guard
Applicants must have strong skating experience. The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.
The skate guard is responsible for handing out skates and maintaining an organized atmosphere in the skate rental room. The skate guard has a large amount of contact with the public. Guards are also responsible for general custodial duties throughout the building during every shift. Hours will include some evenings and varied weekend shifts. Cheer Tumbling Lead Instructor Wanted
The Oak Lawn Park District is now accepting applications for a lead instructor position for Cheer Tumbling classes. Must be an experienced high level tumbling coach who has strong leadership skills and strong knowledge of cheerleading. Pirouettes Gymnastics program is looking for someone who loves working with pre-teens & teenagers in a friendly work environment with motivated staff in a professional setting. Grill and Banquet Manager

General Purpose

  • The Grill and Banquet Manager is responsible for total operations of the restaurant and banquets including all aspects of profit and loss, hiring and training of full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff, daily execution of safety/sanitation, quality food preparation and guest service.
  • Responsible for cleanliness, repair and maintenance of the building and equipment. The Grill and Banquet Manager is responsible for these areas whether on or off the premises.
  • Responsible for the booking and running of events up to 300 guests including the food and beverage needs of golf outings. 
  • Responsible for communicating and administering all company policies and procedures. 
  • The ideal candidate must possess strong leadership skills, excellent interpersonal communication skills, be self-motivated with the ability to solve complex problems, and be team oriented. 
  • This is a full time year round position.

Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited university in Hospitality, Communications or Business preferred.   At least 2 years in management for a restaurant and or banquet facility. Food Handlers, Food and Sanitation Certification, and BASSET certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.

Duties (including but not limited to):

  • Responsible for the business operation of the Grill, Bar and Banquet facility at Stony Creek Golf Course 
  • Directly supervises the work of all full-time, part-time and seasonal employees at the Grill and Banquet Facility, including hiring, scheduling, training, evaluation, and if necessary, dismissal  
  • Work closely with the golf operations team and communicate rentals, parties, special events, and golf outings  
  • Responsible for budget development, business and financial procedures for daily cash control and record keeping  
  • Creates and promotes programs, and publicizes them through different media sources  
  • Keeps daily statistics as necessary to the operation and management of the Grill and Banquet Facility  
  • Work closely with the Kitchen Manager to properly cost out food and beverage services for all aspects of the golf course  
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of all supplies needed for the Bar and Grill Facility including maintenance supplies  
  • Conducts regular staff meetings  
  • Makes regular inspection of the Bar and Grill Facility to assess the equipment and maintenance 
  • Responsible for overseeing the inventory and ordering of liquor, food and supplies 
  • Submit written reports to the Superintendent of Special Facilities on proposed menus, and special events schedule, which will be included in all regular publicity including the park district brochure and mailings of the Park District.

 

Salary:             $40,000-$45,000 with full benefits

Note: If you are not a current student studying recreation, sports management or a related field you DO NOT qualify for an internship at the Oak Lawn Park District.
 
The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work
The Oak Lawn Park District has positions available at the Oak View Center and the Community Pavilion.

An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: July 1st
