Swim Lesson Instructor

 

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Swim Lesson Instructors for the 2014-2015 Indoor Swim Lessons Season to begin Saturday, October 11.  Lessons are held on Saturdays between 9:30am and 2:30pm at the Richard’s High School Pool.  The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.  Starting wage for Swim Lesson Instructors is 9.00 per hour.  Prior Swim knowledge is required and WSI Certification is a plus.

Qualifications:

  1. 1.Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  2. 2.Friendly, outgoing personality, positive attitude and the ability to work well with others in a team oriented environment.
  3. 3.Prior swim lessons teaching experience preferred.
  4. 4.Must enjoy working with children.
  5. 5.This position is responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
  6. 6.Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies.
  7. 7.Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons
  8. 8.Submits completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time.

Athletic Party Supervisor

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Athletic Party Attendant will be responsible for greeting customers and assisting with party set up. The Athletic Party Attendant will also be responsible for leading athletic games and activities for children of all ages. Games may include basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, dodge ball, etc.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

-Must be at least 18 years old.

-Excellent customer service skills.

-The ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and posted schedules.

-Ability to stand for long periods of time.

-Ability to see gym with sufficient clarity to maintain control.

-Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions

-Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with -participants, supervisors and other employees of the Park District.

-Ability to work a flexible schedule with some weekend and evenings

-Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.

-Must be able to act in a professional and mature manner at all times as a representative of the Park District.

Start Smart Sports Instructors

The Community Pavilion is looking for mature instructors to teach the Start Smart Program for 3 to 5 yr olds and their Parents. Individuals must possess basic knowledge of the sports of Baseball and Soccer, be energetic, organized, creative and able to communicate with parents and children. CPR/AED certification is a plus. DESCRIPTION
The FLASH Recreation Leader position is a part time/seasonal position. The FLASH Recreation Leader works directly with the participants and is directly responsible for leading daily activities and interacting with the participants at their assigned FLASH location. This may include a wide variety of responsibilities including supervision of participants, the set up and clean up of snack, games, crafts and activities and to contribute to lesson plans. The ideal candidate will be mature, responsible and have a great attitude. The candidate should have the ability to effectively communicate with children and adults.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 16 years old
Experience working with children ages K-5th grade.

HOURS (Typical)
Morning Shift: 6:45AM - 8:45AM
Afternoon Shift: 3:00PM - 6:00PM

WAGE RANGE
$8.25 - $9.00 depending on experience

The FLASH Site Coordinator position is a part time/seasonal position. The FLASH Site Director position is directly responsible for overseeing the daily operations at their assigned FLASH school location. This will include a wide variety of responsibilities including supervision of childcare staff and participants at their particular site, weekly preparation of lesson plans, communication with participants, their parents, school personnel, and his/her direct supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 21 years or older
Experience working with children ages K-5th grade.
Supervisory experience preferred
Must be available for both morning and afternoon shifts.

HOURS (Typical)
Morning Shift: 6:45AM - 8:45AM

 Skate Guard
Applicants must have strong skating experience. The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.
The skate guard is responsible for handing out skates and maintaining an organized atmosphere in the skate rental room. The skate guard has a large amount of contact with the public. Guards are also responsible for general custodial duties throughout the building during every shift. Hours will include some evenings and varied weekend shifts. Private Guitar Lessons Instructor


OVERVIEW
Skilled guitarist and musician needed to work with participants ages 8 & up to teach various skill levels of guitar-playing.

Days and times of lessons are flexible.
Hours can coincide comfortably with school and/or work schedule.

Must be responsible and reliable.

Year-round position.


DESCRIPTION
The Oak View Center is looking for an enthusiastic part-time instructor to teach private guitar lessons for ages 8 and up. Individuals must possess a vast knowledge of music, different styles of guitar, and skill in playing guitar. A minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching guitar preferred. Individuals must be able to communicate with parents and children. CPR/AED certification is a plus. Hours vary and are flexible to candidate’s schedule. Pay depends on qualifications. Cheer Tumbling Lead Instructor Wanted
The Oak Lawn Park District is now accepting applications for a lead instructor position for Cheer Tumbling classes. Must be an experienced high level tumbling coach who has strong leadership skills and strong knowledge of cheerleading. Pirouettes Gymnastics program is looking for someone who loves working with pre-teens & teenagers in a friendly work environment with motivated staff in a professional setting. Part Time approximately 9 hours, Pay will be based on experience. Cheer tumble classes are held 6:30-9:30 Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays. Internships

Note: If you are not a current student studying recreation, sports management or a related field you DO NOT qualify for an interhsip at the Oak Lawn Park District.
 
The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work
The Oak Lawn Park District has positions available at the Oak View Center and the Community Pavilion.

An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: July 1st
