Swim Lesson Instructor

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Swim Lesson Instructors for the 2014-2015 Indoor Swim Lessons Season to begin Saturday, October 11.  Lessons are held on Saturdays between 9:30am and 2:30pm at the Richard’s High School Pool.  The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.  Starting wage for Swim Lesson Instructors is 9.00 per hour.  Prior Swim knowledge is required and WSI Certification is a plus.

Qualifications:

  1. 1.Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  2. 2.Friendly, outgoing personality, positive attitude and the ability to work well with others in a team oriented environment.
  3. 3.Prior swim lessons teaching experience preferred.
  4. 4.Must enjoy working with children.
  5. 5.This position is responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
  6. 6.Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies.
  7. 7.Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons
  8. 8.Submits completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time.

Front Desk Attendant

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Front Desk Attendant position is a part time non-IMRF position.  The position is responsible for assisting customers with activity registration and payment for facility usage.  The front desk attendant will work directly supervised by the Assistant Pavilion Manager.

-Take rental permits

-Unlocking and locking doors when building opens and closes

-Depositing money and registrations with completed batches

Weekend Supervisor

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The weekend supervisor position is a part time non-IMRF position.  The position is responsible for a wide range of tasks including maintenance duties, assisting at the front desk, rental supervision, overseeing open gym and supervising large shows, expos and tournaments.  The candidate will be expected to be available to work 8-16 hours every weekend.  Additional hours available if the position demands.  The weekend supervisor will be directly supervised by the Pavilion Maintenance Supervisor and the Assistant Pavilion Manager.

  

Essential Functions

 

-Overseeing facility rentals

 

-Preparing rental space

 

-Greet rental patrons and escort to rental location

 

-Check in with rental host throughout rental to ensure they are satisfied

 

-Ensure that each rental is out of the space by the designated end time

 

-Assist with cleanup of rental space

 

-Oversee part time maintenance staff and assist with maintenance duties as needed

 

-Assist front desk during high traffic periods with registrations, daily visits, customer service, etc.

 

-May be required to visit satellite facilities to assist with rental issues

 

-Oversee operations during large shows, expos, tournaments and other special events

 

-Oversee open gym operations and ensure patrons are following code of conduct/rules

 

-Will be responsible for responding to a variety of issues including scheduling, rentals, customer service, maintenance or other issues that may occur

 

-Will be responsible for communicating important information to program, facility or maintenance supervisors

 

-Responsible for overall cleanliness of the facility

 

-And other duties as assigned

Community Pavilion Part-time Maintenance Custodian

                The Part-Time Maintenance Custodian position is responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance work in the Community Pavilion and its immediate surrounding grounds. The employee is under the direct supervision of the maintenance supervisor.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Cleans and washes floors, walls, and windows.

  • Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies.

  • Empties waste and other thrash.

  • Clean weight room equipment.

  • Change Light Bulbs.

  • Cleans adjacent grounds for litter and sweeps walks.

  • Cleans and maintains locker and shower rooms including replenishing supplies.

  • Act as a watchman when necessary.

  • Submits daily check sheets of work performed.

  • Setup and takedown of volleyball equipment, tables, chairs, party rentals, and other programs as needed.

  • Clean all gym courts and surrounding area.

  • Obey and enforce rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Oak Lawn Park District.

  • Performs other task as needed by Maintenance Supervisor.

Marginal Functions:

  • Moves furniture and equipment as needed.

  • Reports building repairs.

  • Shovels snow.

  • Operates gas powered snow blower.

  • Spreads salt on sidewalks.

  • Must work around the general public and patrons in the facility.

  • Must work under the supervision and directions of superiors.

  • Custodian is exposed to outside weather conditions 10 percent of the time, including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain, and ice.

  • Protective clothing is required as follows: ear plugs, safety glasses/goggles, protective gloves, and protective equipment needed for specific job task.

  • Worker is exposed to chemicals including but not limited to cleaning supplies, weed killers, oils, and gasoline.

Start Smart Sports Instructors

The Community Pavilion is looking for mature instructors to teach the Start Smart Program for 3 to 5 yr olds and their Parents. Individuals must possess basic knowledge of the sports of Baseball and Soccer, be energetic, organized, creative and able to communicate with parents and children. CPR/AED certification is a plus.  Skate Guard
Applicants must have strong skating experience. The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.
The skate guard is responsible for handing out skates and maintaining an organized atmosphere in the skate rental room. The skate guard has a large amount of contact with the public. Guards are also responsible for general custodial duties throughout the building during every shift. Hours will include some evenings and varied weekend shifts. Cheer Tumbling Lead Instructor Wanted
The Oak Lawn Park District is now accepting applications for a lead instructor position for Cheer Tumbling classes. Must be an experienced high level tumbling coach who has strong leadership skills and strong knowledge of cheerleading. Pirouettes Gymnastics program is looking for someone who loves working with pre-teens & teenagers in a friendly work environment with motivated staff in a professional setting. Note: If you are not a current student studying recreation, sports management or a related field you DO NOT qualify for an internship at the Oak Lawn Park District.
 
The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work
The Oak Lawn Park District has positions available at the Oak View Center and the Community Pavilion.

An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: July 1st
