Casting Call: Seussical Auditions to be held in Oak Lawn -The Oak Lawn Park District Theatre group has announced a casting call for its upcoming production of Seussical. Auditions will be held Sunday, May 4 from 1 - 5 pm, for children ages 8-12 and out of town college students, and adult auditions on Monday, May 5 and Tuesday, May 6 from 7:30 – 10:30 pm. Come in proper attire and be prepared to sing and dance. Auditions will be held at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th Street. Seussical will run for two consecutive weekends, August 1-3 and August 8-10.  First rehearsal will be on June 8th. Little League Coaches Clinic - College Hall of Famer and National Champion, Fred Freberg will be facilitating a Little League Coaches Clinic on Saturday May 10 from 12-2pm at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness and Gymnastics Center.  The Focus of the clinic will be pitching, hitting and throwing as well as the mental aspect of youth baseball.  Fee for the clinic is $20.00 (payable at the front desk upon arrival).  For more information, please contact the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness and Gymnastics Center at 708-857-2215.
 
 
Tai-Chi - The Oak Lawn Park District is offering another session of Tai-Chi beginning May 13 and continuing through July 1.  Tai Chi combines proper breathing techniques with circular movements that are graceful and similar to dance.  The class does not just go through the motions:  participants will be worked with one-on-one and posture may be corrected physically. Classes will be held Monday evenings from 7 - 8:00pm at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.).  This program is open to individuals 18 years and older.  Fee is $59 for Oak Lawn residents and $74 for non-residents.  Please call the Pavilion for more information at 708-857-2420.
 
 
Oak Lawn Park District's Annual Battle of the Bands - Cheer on your favorite band when local teen bands battle for the winning title at Oak Lawn Park District's Local Battle of the Bands Competition on Saturday, May 10 from 7-10:30pm.  The winning band of this competition moves on to represent the Oak Lawn Park District in the South Suburban Regional Battle of the Bands Competition in July. The Annual Battle of the Bands will take place at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.). Concessions available.  Get your own Battle of the Bands T-Shirt.  ALL ages Welcome!! Cruising Along Rt. 66 Music…Lunch and Tour of the Jacob Henry Mansion– Join the Oak Lawn Park District on Wednesday, May 14 as we head to Joliet to enjoy a delightful show put on by Mike Williamson and Patte Armato Lund.  This duet will take us on a non-stop musical tour of America performing classic duets like Sonny & Cher, Kenny & Dolly, the Captain & Tennille and Johnny Cash & June Carter. We will also enjoy a homemade lunch at the Abbey Theatre located next door to the Jacob Henry Mansion.  A tour of the mansion is included in this trip. The wheelchair accessible motorcoach will depart the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave., at 9:30am and return at 3:30pm.  Fee is $60 for Oak Lawn residents and $65 for non-residents. Singing in the Rain  - The Oak Lawn Park District Theatre production of Singing in the Rain will run at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., for two consecutive weekends: May 30 – June 1 and June 6 - 8.  Friday and Saturday shows are at 8:00 pm and Sunday shows are at 3:00 pm. Tickets for the May/June production are available at the Oak View Center. Prices are $20 for adult and $19 for seniors and children. Co-Rec Teen Sand Volleyball Leagues – The Oak Lawn Park District will have 2 Co-Rec Teen Sand Volleyball Leagues this summer.  League play will be held on Wednesdays at 110th and Kilpatrick or Fridays at Centennial Park.  Leagues will run June 4 – August 15.  Cost is $150 per team.  League participation is open to those ages 13 – 20. Men’s, Women’s and Co-Rec Adult Sand Volleyball Leagues  - Resident team registration is under way for the men’s, women’s and co-ed sand volleyball leagues.  Non-resident team registration begins May 10.  Fee per team is $325. Teams will participate in round robin play with game times varying each week.  League play begins the first week of June. Participants must have a signed waiver on file. Summer Girls Beauty Lock-In - Schools out and who wants to start the summer off with a bang?  The Oak Lawn Park District is hosting a Girls Beauty Lock-in Friday, May 30 –Saturday, May 31 at the Teen Center (9400 S. Oak Park Ave.). Participants will get their hair done (by certified stylist), makeup and nails.  Bring an air mattress, pillows, sleeping bags and PJs.  There will be pizza & junk food, games, music and girl movies. Do not miss this amazing night of NO BOYS.  Lock-in is open to those in 5th – 9th grade. Sign up by May 26. Fee is $50 per participant. For more information call 708-857-2200.
 
 
Glenn Miller Orchestra – Join the Oak Lawn Park District on Sunday, June 1 as we head to the beautiful Paramount Theatre in Aurora to hear the legendary sounds of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.  The 19-piece orchestra, under the direction of Larry O’Brien, evokes the warm waves of nostalgia with classics like “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” and “In the Mood.” The wheelchair accessible motorcoach will depart the Community Pavilion, 9401 S. Oak Park Ave., at 1pm and return at 6pm.  Fee is $40 for Oak Lawn residents and $45 for non-residents. For more information call the Oak View Center at 708-857-2200.
 
 
Family Camp-Out! - Come out and enjoy the beginning of summer camping under the stars at The Oak Lawn Park District’s Wolf Wildlife Refuge (109th & Laramie) on Friday, June 13.  Participants will enjoy games, a late night campfire, campfire activities, hot dog and marshmallow roast, and a continental breakfast. You must provide your own tent, sleeping bags and camping equipment.  Fee is $8 for Oak Lawn residents and $10 for non-residents. Registration deadline is June 7th! Day Camp Field Trips – Looking for a unique field trip for your day camp our day care this summer?  The Oak Lawn Park District Pirouettes are offing a fun 2-hour gymnastics program.  This program is ideal for boys and girls of all abilities, ages 3-13.  Kids will have a great time in our air-conditioned facility, learning how to use equipment such as: the tumble track, foam block pit, obstacle coarse, rings, rope, bars, beam, vault and p-bars.  The Pirouettes staff will give instruction on each event and will lead games and fun activities.  Special recreation groups are welcome.  Field trips can be scheduled on Thursdays and Fridays, June – August from 10am – 12pm or 1pm – 3pm at the Racquet, Fitness and Gymnastics Center (10444 S. Preschool Registration – The Oak Lawn Park District is currently accepting registrations for all 2008/2009 preschool programs. The park district offers affordable, quality preschool classes for 3- to 5-year-olds. The preschool programs—Learn As You Grow I, Learn As You Grow II, Play School and Prep School—are offered at the Oak View Center (4625 W. 110th St.) and the Little White Building in Lake Shore Park (96th Street and East Shore Drive) and are taught by qualified instructors. The programs, for children ages 3 and 4, offer a balance of structured and free-play activities that are ideal for the young child: story time, singing, art and holiday celebrations. The programs for children ages 4 and 5 are the stepping-stones to kindergarten, emphasizing all readiness skills (numbers, colors, letters, shapes, printing). Massage Therapy at the Community Pavilion - Sandra Coffey is available by appointment only. Massage therapy is used to reduce stress, increase circulation and detoxify overexerted muscles. ...There is a combination of 32 parks and facilities owned and operated by the Oak Lawn Park District which cover a total of 294.19 acres.

...The Oak Lawn Park District’s operating budget for 2006/07 is $8.4 million. Capital projects budget and debt service is $5.9 million. The fiscal year of the District runs from May 1st to April 30th.

...The Park District employs a staff of 50 full time and 221 part time employees. There are approximately 224 seasonal employees, which fluctuates with the season.

...Our 2 natural areas are: Chicago Ridge Prairie located at 105th and Menard and Wolfe Wildlife Refuge located at 109th & Laramie. They feature walking/jogging/bicycle paths, wetlands and nature studies.

...The Cultural Arts Department of the Park District has a theatre program which offer 4 plays each year. There are also concerts featuring the different levels of the adult and children chorale groups.

...Approximately 30,000 rounds of golf are played at Stony Creek Golf Course each year.
