Built in 1987, the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Ave.) is a friendly and affordable recreation center where people go to get fit in the fitness center; kids go to play basketball, volleyball and soccer in the indoor arena; and all ages go to walk the 1/8-mile indoor track all year round. The fitness center features Cybex equipment, stair steppers, treadmills, exercise bicycles and free weights, plus a babysitting room to make fitness activities convenient for moms and dads. Besides open gym, sports leagues and sports-training programs, the 28,000-sq. ft. main arena of the Pavilion can be rented for business functions, celebrations and trade shows. Recreation programs offered here include: Bench-Step Aerobics, Kickboxing, Seniorcise, Pilates-Based Conditioning, Yoga Fitness, Rug Rat Sports, the 1,000 Mile Walking Club and the George Shimko Basketball School.
