Greetings Patrons!

As the Environmental Coordinator, it is my job to find ways we can improve our recycling practices and lower our fuel usage in the park district. I hope you will also find this information useful at home! Even the little things we change in out daily habits will help save our environment. Even the smallest effort counts.

As promised I have a few good websites to start with for Going Green!. I hope you will take a little time to read some info and get inspired to change your daily routine. It really doesn't take much effort:)

Have a great day!

Dolly, Environmental Coordinator

I have suggested that we start to eliminate plastic grocery bags because they are a burden on the environment and wildlife as well as a waste of petroleum. I have switched to reusable grocery bags and this is a great source! I keep them in my car and it only took a few weeks to get into the habit of using them 90% of the time. (I still forget every once in a while) http://www.reusablebags.com/

The National Recycling Coalition (NRC) is a national non-profit advocacy group with members that span all aspects of waste reduction, reuse and recycling in North America. Their site has loads of great info. Check out the conversionator at the bottom of the page- a great tool for kids and adults alike!

This organization (Computers for Schools) takes your old computers, cleans them up and then places computers in schools all over the US. The Oak Lawn Park District recently donated all of its surplus equipment (a whole extended van fullJ). This is a great way to declutter your basement or attic.
