For the 24th consecutive year, the Oak Lawn Park District received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). Each year, upon completion of the annual financial audit, the Park District submits the audited reports to the GFOA for their review for proper accounting practices of the financial process. The Certificate of Achievement was awarded for Fiscal Year 2022.
The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (Certificate Program) in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
This award provides us added confidence in our financial position as a District, as well as encourages us to constantly review our accounting principles to ensure that we are in compliance with government industry standards, said Tom Hartwig, executive director. I m proud of our Finance Team for their hard work to demonstrate to our taxpayers that we are being good stewards of their resources as we strive to provide them with a wide range of parks, activities, and facilities to improve their lives.
