ICE ARENA 

  • • Applicants must have strong skating experience.
    • The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.

MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT

Facility Systems Technician  (posted 4/20/21)

The facility systems technician is responsible for general building maintenance and repair at all district facilities. The Facility Systems Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of Park District property and equipment.  The Facility Systems Technician reports to the Superintendent of Parks and Planning. This is a full-time hourly non-exempt position. Regular work hours are to be Monday-Friday 6:30 am – 3:00 pm. Due to the nature of this position it is sometimes necessary to amend work hours to include evenings or additional days during the week, including some holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 18 years of age and high school graduate or equivalent. Prior experience in parks maintenance or related field preferred. Must have a valid class C Illinois Driver’s License, or obtain within 6 months of hire. Individual must complete and pass a pre-placement physical examination and drug screening administered by an Oak Lawn Park District selected facility.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

Prior experience and knowledge of semi-skilled carpentry, painting, dry-wall, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, welding, concrete and other related maintenance skills is preferred. Experience and ability in operating a variety of vehicles and equipment including: trailers, tractors, riding mowers, utility vehicles, backhoe, skid steer, wood chipper, air compressor, trencher, chainsaws, landscape equipment, power tools preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and public. Must be able to read, write and speak English.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
·         Performs playground repairs.

·         Performs rough carpentry work in the alteration, repair, maintenance, and construction of buildings and equipment.

Day Camp Counselor

To supervise, nurture, and run activities for groups of children ages 3-14 in a day camp setting. Counselors are responsible for the safety and well being of camper participants. Counselor’s main priority is to provide campers with a fun, happy, and nurturing experience in a safe and friendly environment. The Day Camp counselor job is a seasonal, part time position, starting in June and ending in August. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Experience working with children ages 3-14 in recreational, educational or related programs preferred. High School graduate preferred. Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities. Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. Strong organizational and communication skills. 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: 
Site Director 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS. 

• Assist and initiate the planning and implementation of daily camp activities. Must organize both games and crafts. 
• On a weekly basis, meet with site’s counselor staff and Site Director to review the week’s activities and plan the weekly planner. Each counselor is then responsible for creating a weekly day and rain day planner filled with activities, which will be submitted to your Site Director. 
• Provide a safe and productive playground. Assist Site Director by providing playground inspection checks and filling out playground inspection forms. Watch groups at all times while at the playground. Limit playground play to 2-3 times a week at ½ hour increments. (1/4 hour for Preschool Camp Sunshine) 
• Responsible for accurately filling out Accident/Incident Reports and submitting to Site Director. 
• Responsible for disciplining campers appropriately, following the Oak Lawn Park District Day Camp Discipline policy. Communicate camper issues with Site Director. Must document and record camper issues and discipline matters. 
• Counselors are responsible for the close supervision of campers while at the pools. Counselors are required to be in the pool with campers for close supervision. 
• Supervise campers closely while on busses. 
• Provide excellent customer service to parents
• Keep accurate records of personal camper forms. Review and keep accurate records of Healthy and Allergy information forms. Work with parent if child has special health or other needs.
• Keep accurate attendance records.
• Keep inventory of first aid supplies on you at all times. Be prepared to administer first aid on injured campers. 
• Typical work hours for Full Day Camp Counselors are 8:00am-2:45pm; Camp Sunshine: 8:30am-3:30pm; Extended Camp: Hours vary between 2:00-6:00pm.

• Counselors are evaluated on a bi-weekly basis. All counselors begin on two-week probation. After the two weeks, if a counselor is not performing the duties, he/she may be dismissed.

The Preschool /Tot Instructor is under the Recreation Supervisor, and is responsible for creating a positive environment within the classroom that will stimulate a child’s intellectual, physical and emotional growth and health. The instructor must serve as a team member and work in cooperation with other instructors, aides and all other personnel of the Oak Lawn Park District. QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates or Bachelors in Early Childhood Education or related field are preferred. High School diploma required with minimum of four years experience working with preschool aged children.

JOB DESCRIPTION:  
The Bus driver is responsible for Driving and keeping the bus clean and in good shape. The employee works under the direct supervision of the Special Recreation Supervisor.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 
Must obtain a CDL Drivers License. Must have 3 years of experience with driving with CDL and no prier records. 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works cooperatively with all other departments of the district to enhance the overall quality of all district programs and to promote department programs.
Obeys and enforces all practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program this is pertinent it the activities conducted by the department.
Full up gas when needed.
Operating the bus over a prescribed route, and following the correct time schedule.
Carrying out regular weekly conditions checks on busses that are to be driven.

TITLE: Full-Time Maintenance Supervisor
The Oak Lawn Racquet, Fitness, and Gymnastics Center is searching for a new full-time maintenance team member. As team member, individual will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks involving manual labor. Such tasks include facility repairs, sweeping tennis courts, sanitizing/cleaning the gymnastics area, setting up wally ball nets, constructing new equipment, maintaining fitness equipment, painting, cleaning the facility, replacing restroom materials, and assisting with set-up, take-down, clean-up of special events and opening/closing of facility. Recreation Intern


Note: If you are not a current student studying recreation, sports management or a related field you DO NOT qualify for an internship at the Oak Lawn Park District.

 
The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work.
 
An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: August 1st
