Lifeguard 

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Lifeguard Positions for the Indoor Swim Lessons Season. Lifeguards are responsible to ensuring the safety of patrons including accident prevention in the water and on surrounding areas and the rescue and care of accident victims. Starting wage is $8.25 per hour. 

 Qualifications: 

  1. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.

  2. American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivilant.

  3. American Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer certificationor equivilant.

  4. Possess the ability to swim 500 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes and the ability to retrieve a 10-lb brick from the bottom of the deep well.

  5. Ability to relate to staff and patrons in a positive manner that represents our agency.

 Swim Lesson Instructor

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Swim Lesson Instructors for the Fall thruogh Spring Lesson at Richards High School.  Immediate Openings. The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Starting wage for Swim Lesson Instructors is 9.00 per hour for group lessons.. Prior Swim knowledge is preferred but not required and WSI Certification is a plus.

  Qualifications:

 

  1. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.

  2. Friendly, outgoing personality, positive attitude and the ability to work well with others in a team oriented environment.

  3. Prior swim lessons teaching experience preferred.

  4. Must enjoy working with children.

  5. This position is responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.

  6. Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies.

Part-time Maintenance Custodian

The Part-Time Maintenance Custodian position is responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance work in the Community Pavilion and its immediate surrounding grounds. The employee is under the direct supervision of the maintenance supervisor.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Cleans and washes floors, walls, and windows.

  • Clean weight room equipment.

  • Change Light Bulbs.

  • Cleans adjacent grounds for litter and sweeps walks.

  • Cleans and maintains locker and shower rooms including replenishing supplies.

  • Setup and takedown of volleyball equipment, tables, chairs, party rentals, and other programs as needed.

Ice Arena

 

 

JOB TITLE: Ice Arena Manager

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or a related field. Three to five years of ice rink facility management experience along with experience supervising others is preferred. Experience operating a Zamboni ice resurfacing machine is strongly desired along with knowledge of mechanical systems. Other qualifications: Must possess attention to detail, strong interpersonal, leadership, organizational, communication and customer service skills. Must be able to pass a physical, drug test, Illinois Drivers' License record check and criminal background check.

DUTIES: The full-time Ice Arena Manager is responsible for the day to day operations.  The manager is also responsible for recruitment, hiring, training, discipline, evaluation, and supervision of full and part time employees.  The manager is responsible for the creation and implementation of the facility budget and reviews and approves payroll.  The manager is also responsible for the inspection and cleanliness of the facility and helps with maintain the facilities mechanical systems.  Serves as a member of the District's Safety Committee
and participates in other District committees as requested and must work the July 4th special event. Must obtain and keep current certification in CPR/AED/First Aid. This position is on call for building emergencies 24/7.

 

HOURS:
This position works a variety of hours that may include weekday, evening and weekend hours.

Zamboni Driver/Building Supervisor

The Oak Lawn Park District Ice Arena is seeking a responsible individual to operate the ice resurfacer and act as the building supervisor to provide the safest ice surface and facility possible. 

This position requires the supervision of other part time staff.  They will also conduct routine maintenance in and around the building in order to provide a safe and clean environment for the community to enjoy. 

The workplace is moderate to very busy depending on the task and time of day. 

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older; possess strong leadership and problem solving skills.  They must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.  High school diploma or equivalent. 

Applicants must be able to work independently. 

Seeking ice arena/skating experience, mechanical experience, customer service experience, supervisory experience.

This is a part time position with a variety of shifts available to include nights and weekends.  15-20 hours per week.

Starting wage- $9.50 per hour for probationary period with potential for increase after approximately 90 days. 
 
 

Concession Stand Attendant 

The concession stand attendant is responsible for the preparation of food, cash handling, and cleanliness of the concession stand. Additional responsibilities include assisting with supply inventory and re-stocking.  Customer service skills are essential to this position.

 Part-time Freestyle Ice Monitor - Ice Arena

The Ice Monitors are responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct and ensuring the safety of all skaters during Freestyle/practice skating sessions. Ice Monitors maintain attendance for sessions, and are responsible for payments and cash control procedures. Ice Monitors will make certain that participants respect all skaters, Ice Monitors and coaches, maintain ice when needed and allow the program skater to have the right-of-way to increase the safety of all participants.  Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents is essential.Must be able to:

 SKATE GUARD

Applicants must have strong skating experience.

The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.
The skate guard is responsible for handing out skates and maintaining an organized atmosphere in the skate rental room.

The skate guard has a large amount of contact with the public.

Guards are also responsible for general custodial duties throughout the building during every shift.

The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work.
 
An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: July 1st
