The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Swim Lesson Instructors for the Indoor season which will run Sept. through May on Saturday’s at Richards High School. The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Starting wage for Swim Lesson Instructors is 10.00 per hour for group lessons. Prior Swim knowledge is required and WSI Certification is a plus.

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.

  2. Friendly, outgoing personality, positive attitude and the ability to work well with others in a team oriented environment.

  3. Prior swim lessons teaching experience preferred.

  4. Must enjoy working with children.

  5. This position is responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.

Lifeguard

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Lifeguard Positions for the Indoor Lesson Season which will run September through May on Saturday’s at Richards High School. Lifeguards are responsible to ensuring the safety of patrons including accident prevention in the water and on surrounding areas and the rescue and care of accident victims. Starting wage is $10.00 per hour.

  1. Qualifications:

 

 
    1. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
 
    1. American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or the ability to obtain.
 
    1. American Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer certification or the ability to obtain.
 
    1. Possess the ability to swim 500 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes and the ability to retrieve a 10-lb brick from the bottom of the deep well.

The Part-Time Maintenance Custodian position is responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance work in the Community Pavilion and its immediate surrounding grounds. The employee is under the direct supervision of the maintenance supervisor.

Job Description   Concession attendants are primarily responsible for the sale of food, general beverage, and alcohol; re-stocking of food and beverage items; taking inventory; preparation of food; cash handling; and cleaning of the equipment and surrounding area.

Ice Arena

Zamboni Driver/Building Supervisor

The Oak Lawn Park District Ice Arena is seeking a responsible individual to operate the ice resurfacer and act as the building supervisor to provide the safest ice surface and facility possible. 

This position requires the supervision of other part time staff.  They will also conduct routine maintenance in and around the building in order to provide a safe and clean environment for the community to enjoy. 

The workplace is moderate to very busy depending on the task and time of day. 

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older; possess strong leadership and problem solving skills.  They must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.  High school diploma or equivalent. 

Applicants must be able to work independently. 

Seeking ice arena/skating experience, mechanical experience, customer service experience, supervisory experience.

This is a part time position with a variety of shifts available to include nights and weekends.  15-20 hours per week.

Starting wage- $9.50 per hour for probationary period with potential for increase after approximately 90 days. 
 
 

Concession Stand Attendant 

The concession stand attendant is responsible for the preparation of food, cash handling, and cleanliness of the concession stand. Additional responsibilities include assisting with supply inventory and re-stocking.  Customer service skills are essential to this position.

 Part-time Freestyle Ice Monitor - Ice Arena

The Ice Monitors are responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct and ensuring the safety of all skaters during Freestyle/practice skating sessions. Ice Monitors maintain attendance for sessions, and are responsible for payments and cash control procedures. Ice Monitors will make certain that participants respect all skaters, Ice Monitors and coaches, maintain ice when needed and allow the program skater to have the right-of-way to increase the safety of all participants.  Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents is essential.Must be able to:

 

  • provide exceptional customer service
  • work a varied schedule as required
  • use good judgment and discretion as needed
  • perform a variety of tasks in a busy atmosphere
  • have a high safety awareness
  • work independent and with others on a variety of tasks

 SKATE GUARD

Applicants must have strong skating experience.

The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.
The skate guard is responsible for handing out skates and maintaining an organized atmosphere in the skate rental room.

The skate guard has a large amount of contact with the public.

Guards are also responsible for general custodial duties throughout the building during every shift.

The Bus driver is responsible for driving and keeping the bus clean and in good shape. The employee works under the direct supervision of the Special Recreation Supervisor. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Must obtain a current CDL Driver’s License. Must have 3 years of experience driving with CDL and no prior records.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be able to drive participants of all ability levels on trips.

Works cooperatively with all other departments of the district to enhance the overall quality of all district programs and to promote department programs.

Obeys and enforces all practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program this is pertinent it the activities conducted by the department.

Operating the bus over a prescribed route, and following the correct time schedule.

Carrying out regular weekly conditions checks on busses that are to be driven.

Golf Shop Staff Attendant & Customer Service Team Member

Excellent communication skills and computer literacy required; cash control skills; ability to effectively and efficiently complete cash, credit card and gift card transactions; ability to exercise good judgment and confidentiality. Must have the ability to speak, read and write basic English; must hold a valid driver’s license; must be able to effectively operate radios and other communication devices.

QUALIFICATIONS: High school, CPR certification required. First Aid certification desired. Previous customer service and cash handling experience required; inventory control and golf experience preferred; tee time reservation systems experience preferred; knowledge of golf, golf instruction and etiquette required.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Clubhouse Manager

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 Act as an ambassador for Stony Creek by providing assistance to patrons at golf facility (i.e. provide directions, maintain safety , explain programs, communicate concerns to supervisor). Greet all golfers, register golfers, answer phones, and reserve tee times. Collect monies, reconcile cash and register orders in the computer system at the conclusion of shift. Effectively and efficiently complete cash, credit card and gift card transactions. Maintain clean and orderly golf shop area. Comply with standard inventory control procedures. Maintain communication with outside operations staff; update tee sheets as required while monitoring all golf activities. Promote the mission of the Oak Lawn Park District and Stony Creek Golf Course. Work holidays and weekends as necessary. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Supports and exhibits the established organizational values of respect, communication, integrity, innovation, recognition, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and personal development.

Stony Creek Restaurant & Banquets Server

Server The Server is under the supervision of the Restaurant Manager. The server is responsible to ensure prompt, courteous and enthusiastic service while serving food and alcoholic beverages to patrons during events and restaurant hours of operation.

QUALIFICATIONS:  High School Diploma or equivalent  Ability to work in a standing position long periods of time (up to 5 hours)  Ability to carry 8-10 meals on a tray at any given time (at least 8 hours)  Basic math skills  Be able to lift and easily maneuver trays of food weighing up to 45lbs

Marketing & Public Relations Intern (Summer, Fall, and Winter positions available)

General:  The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students with a Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations Major or Minor. The Marketing & Public Relations Intern will assist the Communications Department, and more specifically, the Marketing & Public Relations Supervisor with everyday communications.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Take pictures of programs, events, facilities, parks
  • Develop promotional materials such as press release, signs, coupons, flyers, banners, e-mail blasts, pamphlets, slideshows, videos, website, etc
  • Assist with obtaining sponsors/donors/advertisers
  • Measure marketing efforts through surveys and focus groups
  • Maintain social media presence and develop Park District presence on other social networks
  • Research parks and recreation trends
  • Order promotional items
  • Attend community meetings and events
  • Plan and implement special events and exhibitions
  • Help maintain a positive image of the Park District to the community
  • Other general office duties

Recreation Intern

Note: If you are not a current student studying recreation, sports management or a related field you DO NOT qualify for an internship at the Oak Lawn Park District.

 
The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work.
 
An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: July 1st
