Swim Lesson Instructor
The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Swim Lesson Instructors for the Summer 2019 Pool Season to begin the week of June 10, 2019. The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Starting wage for Swim Lesson Instructors is 10.00 per hour for group lessons and $15.00 for private lessons. Prior Swim knowledge is required and WSI Certification is a plus.


Qualifications:
1. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
2. Friendly, outgoing personality, positive attitude and the ability to work well with others in a team oriented environment.
3. Prior swim lessons teaching experience preferred.

Tot Swim Lesson Instructor

We are looking for energetic individuals who are creative and can work with infants through toddlers and their parents. The Oak Lawn Park District swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Starting wage for Tot Swim Lesson Instructors is 10.00 per hour for group lessons. Prior Swim knowledge is preferred but not required and WSI Certification is a plus.

Pool Cashier
The Aquatics department is currently hiring individuals for the 2019 Summer Pool Season.

SUMMARY: The Pool Cashier is responsible for handling and accounting for money, filing, communicating by telephone, performing simple arithmetic, data entry and analyzing data or report information and dealing effectively with the public. $8.25 per hour.

QUALIFICATIONS
The Cashier must be at least 16 years of age.

Lifeguard

The Oak Lawn Park District is now taking applications for Lifeguard Positions for the Summer 2019 Pool Season. Lifeguards are responsible to ensuring the safety of patrons including accident prevention in the water and on surrounding areas and the rescue and care of accident victims. Starting wage is $8.25 per hour.

Qualifications:
1. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
2. American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or the ability to obtain.
3. American Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer certification or the ability to obtain.
4. Possess the ability to swim 500 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes and the ability to retrieve a 10-lb brick from the bottom of the deep well.
5. Ability to relate to staff and patrons in a positive manner that represents our agency.
6. Ability to work in a team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with both internal and external customers.
7. Ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.

COMMUNITY PAVILION

 

Part-time Maintenance Custodian

The Part-Time Maintenance Custodian position is responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance work in the Community Pavilion and its immediate surrounding grounds. The employee is under the direct supervision of the maintenance supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Knowledge of cleaning supplies and basic tools.

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

  • Must be able to work independently

  • Must have decision making Skills

  • Must be able to take initiative with task.

  • Communication skills.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Cleans and washes floors, walls, and windows.

  • Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies.

  • Empties waste and other thrash.

  • Clean weight room equipment.

  • Change Light Bulbs.

  • Cleans adjacent grounds for litter and sweeps walks.

  • Cleans and maintains locker and shower rooms including replenishing supplies.

  • Act as a watchman when necessary.

  • Submits daily check sheets of work performed.

  • Setup and takedown of volleyball equipment, tables, chairs, party rentals, and other programs as needed.

  • Clean all gym courts and surrounding area.

  • Obey and enforce rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Oak Lawn Park District.

  • Performs other task as needed by Maintenance Supervisor.

Marginal Functions:

  • Moves furniture and equipment as needed.

  • Shovels snow.

OVERVIEW

Responsible for providing group fitness classes that are organized and safe for all fitness participants and their varying level of physical fitness

DESCRIPTION
A Community Pavilion Fitness Instructor position is part time. The Fitness Instructor is to design and conduct classes that are in the best interest of the participants in a safe manner. The fitness instructor is to be outgoing and professional in order to effectively motivate participants. Instructor must also be able to teach hour long class without leaving and be able to sub other classes when necessary.  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have one of the following Group Exercise Instructor Certifications: ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NETA

Ice Arena

Zamboni Driver/Building Supervisor

The Oak Lawn Park District Ice Arena is seeking a responsible individual to operate the ice resurfacer and act as the building supervisor to provide the safest ice surface and facility possible. 

This position requires the supervision of other part time staff.  They will also conduct routine maintenance in and around the building in order to provide a safe and clean environment for the community to enjoy. 

The workplace is moderate to very busy depending on the task and time of day. 

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older; possess strong leadership and problem solving skills.  They must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.  High school diploma or equivalent. 

Applicants must be able to work independently. 

Seeking ice arena/skating experience, mechanical experience, customer service experience, supervisory experience.

This is a part time position with a variety of shifts available to include nights and weekends.  15-20 hours per week.

Starting wage- $9.50 per hour for probationary period with potential for increase after approximately 90 days. 
 
 

Concession Stand Attendant 

The concession stand attendant is responsible for the preparation of food, cash handling, and cleanliness of the concession stand. Additional responsibilities include assisting with supply inventory and re-stocking.  Customer service skills are essential to this position.

 Applicants must:

  • perform a variety of tasks in a busy atmosphere
  • have a high safety awareness
  • work independent and with others on a variety of tasks 
  • be willing to complete on-line Food Handler Certification Training within 30 days of start

 Part-time Freestyle Ice Monitor - Ice Arena

The Ice Monitors are responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct and ensuring the safety of all skaters during Freestyle/practice skating sessions. Ice Monitors maintain attendance for sessions, and are responsible for payments and cash control procedures. Ice Monitors will make certain that participants respect all skaters, Ice Monitors and coaches, maintain ice when needed and allow the program skater to have the right-of-way to increase the safety of all participants.  Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents is essential.Must be able to:

 

  • provide exceptional customer service
  • work a varied schedule as required
  • use good judgment and discretion as needed
  • perform a variety of tasks in a busy atmosphere
  • have a high safety awareness
  • work independent and with others on a variety of tasks 
  • be willing to work in cold conditions in the Ice Arena area for extended amounts of time

Qualifications:  Excellent communication, problem solving, and organization skills. Preferred Cash Handling Experience. CPR/1st Aid/AED certification or willingness to become certified within 3 months

Starting Wage:     $8.25 an hour

Hours/Shift:        2-3 shifts per week

 

Weekdays:  Time ranges from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Rotating Saturdays: 6:45-9:45 am

 SKATE GUARD

Applicants must have strong skating experience.

The skate guards are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing rules on and off the ice.
The skate guard is responsible for handing out skates and maintaining an organized atmosphere in the skate rental room.

The skate guard has a large amount of contact with the public.

Guards are also responsible for general custodial duties throughout the building during every shift.

Garden Activity Instructor for Day camp

To supervise, plan and run garden to table cooking activities for groups of children ages 10-13 in a day camp setting. Instructor is responsible for the safety and well being of camper participants. Instructor’s main priority is to provide campers with a fun, happy, and educational experience in a safe and friendly environment both at the garden and in the kitchen. This position is a seasonal, part time position, starting in June and ending in August. Hours vary per week. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Experience working with children ages 10-13 in recreational, educational or related programs preferred. Applicant should be familiar with vegetable gardening/ harvesting. High School graduate preferred. Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities. Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. Strong organizational and communication skills. 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Recreation Supervisor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS.

  • Responsible for the care of the plants/ fertilizing/ pruning/ monitoring for pests and harvesting.
  • Assist and initiate the planning and implementation of weekly garden and cooking activities.
  • Provide a safe and educational environment.
  • Coordinate activities and schedules with day camp counselors and site directors.
  • Instruct the campers on proper use of garden and kitchen equipment. Supervise campers closely while using garden or kitchen equipment.
  • Provide excellent customer service to parents.
  • Keep inventory of garden and kitchen supplies. Communicate with Recreation Supervisor when supplies are needed.
  • Typical weekly work hours: 6 hours

  • Attend all Park District mandatory training sessions and meetings.
  • Upon hire, completion of provided First Aid and CPR certification

The Bus driver is responsible for driving and keeping the bus clean and in good shape. The employee works under the direct supervision of the Special Recreation Supervisor. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Must obtain a current CDL Driver’s License. Must have 3 years of experience driving with CDL and no prior records.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be able to drive participants of all ability levels on trips.

Works cooperatively with all other departments of the district to enhance the overall quality of all district programs and to promote department programs.

Obeys and enforces all practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program this is pertinent it the activities conducted by the department.

Fill up gas when needed.

Operating the bus over a prescribed route, and following the correct time schedule.

Carrying out regular weekly conditions checks on busses that are to be driven.

Must have a flexible schedule.

  • Take pictures of programs, events, facilities, parks
  • Develop promotional materials such as press release, signs, coupons, flyers, banners, e-mail blasts, pamphlets, slideshows, videos, website, etc
  • Assist with obtaining sponsors/donors/advertisers
  • Measure marketing efforts through surveys and focus groups
  • Maintain social media presence and develop Park District presence on other social networks

Recreation Intern

Note: If you are not a current student studying recreation, sports management or a related field you DO NOT qualify for an internship at the Oak Lawn Park District.

 
The Oak Lawn Park District is seeking qualified students interested in an internship in the field of Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. Candidates will currently be attending college or be a recent graduate with a major in recreation, outdoor recreation or related field.

Candidates must be responsible, motivated, should have the ability to manage time effectively and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under the supervision of the administrative staff. The student will assist with the administration, supervision, and leadership of specified recreation and leisure activities of the internship. The duration of the internship is 12-16 weeks, but will ultimately be determined by the intern's school requirements. It is the student's responsibility to verify with their professors if the internship qualifies for college credit. Candidates should be prepared to work with children and adults. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and have transportation to work.
 
An intern can expect to get a wide variety of experiences by working at the Oak Lawn Park District Racquet, Fitness & Gymnastics Center, Stony Creek Golf Complex, Oak View Center, Community Pavilion, and Ice Arena. Applicants will be formally interviewed before an internship is offered. They will also be assigned to special events, athletics, community events, administrative tasks and other projects as necessary.
 
Final intern selections for each season will be made by the following dates: 
Spring Internship: December 1st
Summer Internship: April 1st
Fall Internship: July 1st
