Oak Lawn Park District Collecting Treats for Troops

Thursday, November 08, 2018Hits : 2931
The Oak Lawn Park District’s Ice Arena will hold its 8th Annual Treats for Troops collection throughout the month of October.

Participants of the Ice Arena’s Rising Stars Skating School, run by Program Supervisor Mary Hensley, will decorate treat bags and collect Halloween candy to be sent to the troops.

The public is also encouraged to participate by dropping off bags of candy to the Ice Arena, 9320 S. Kenton Ave, by Saturday, November 10th.

An opportunity to decorate treat bags and collect for the troops will also be available at the Park District’s Spookview event at the Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., on Saturday, October 20th, from 11:00am-4:00pm.

All candy collected will be sent to the Park District’s Veterans Care Package Coordinator, Miss Jacky Connelly, who has been collecting and packaging goodies for distribution to the troops for over 10 years.

Last year over 500 pounds of treats were collected.

“We are forever grateful that our community has responded so generously throughout the years. It is heartwarming to see this multitude of people come together to say thank you!”, says Mary Hensley.
