Community Garden

In 2016 the Oak Lawn Park District partnered with SD123 and the Village of Oak Lawn to build a community garden in Oak Lawn.

The garden, located on the North side of Oak Lawn Senior Center near 104th & Cook, is a ½ acre area that was developed into 2 sections.

1.    The Allotment section if for families and individuals to rent allotments and grow their own food, or for local residents or organizations to grow produce to be donated to a local food pantry.

2.    The Pantry Garden section is run by volunteers and the goal is to grow vegetables to entirely donate to the local food pantries. There are 35 beds that volunteers, churches, and organizations use to grow vegetables and share with the community. In the first year of the garden, OLCG donated 350 lbs. of produce. In 2021, over 2400 lb. of produce were harvested and donated to local food pantries and those in need.

Why a Community Garden? Maybe you do not have space at your home to grow your own produce and control what goes on them, or you want to learn from other gardeners, or you want to be able to grow food to feed others. The benefits of a Community Garden are endless.

The Community Garden is open from 4/1-11/30 (approx.) each season.

Registration, payment, and signing of a Rental Agreement are required to participate, along with attendance at a mandatory meeting each March. Participants are expected to volunteer a few hours during the season to assist with up-keep of the garden.
