4th of July Update

4th of July Update

Published 6/11/2020

To Our Patrons,

For decades, we have been fortunate enough to spend quality time with you on the Fourth of July holiday.

Our Fourth of July Party in the Park Celebration has been a summer tradition for time spent with family and friends, patriotism, tasty food, great entertainment, and an overall feel-good community event. Following our event, thousands of patrons meet up with family, friends, and neighbors to experience the amazing fireworks display at Richards High School, which are co-sponsored by the Village of Oak Lawn and the Oak Lawn Park District. Attending these events have been an annual tradition for many of you.

Unfortunately, these unprecedented times are challenging our traditions for the greater good of keeping our community safe. Like all other holidays these past few months, COVID-19 has altered our ability to safely celebrate in the traditional sense. Fourth of July is no exception. Even if our region is permitted to enter Phase 4, the ‘Revitalization’ phase, only gatherings of 50 people or fewer are advised.

With a heavy heart, the Oak Lawn Park District Board voted on Monday, June 8th to postpone our
2020 Annual Fourth of July Party in the Park event and evening fireworks. We are hoping to have the
celebration on Labor Day.

We appreciate your understanding. We hope you are well, and we are excited to “Wellcome You Back” as our doors begin to slowly reopen and limited services begin to run again.

Sincerely,
Oak Lawn Park District
