Character Descriptions:
- Ebenezer Scrooge (Male Presenting)- Grouchy old miser who has grown cold and mean-spirited. Through his journey with the three ghosts, he regains his kindness and goodwill. Strong Actor (TENOR)
- Bob Cratchit (Male Presenting)- Kind and patient, he endures Scrooge’s temper and abuse to provide for his family, especially his family and son, Tiny Tim. (BARITONE)
- Ghost Of Christmas Past / Lamplighter (Any Gender -Must be able to move gracefully)- Joyful, comedic guide to Scrooge into his past. Cheerfulness and kindness are this characters dominant traits, and maybe a little zany. Very energetic (ALL VOCAL RANGES)
- Ghost of Christmas Present / Sandwichboard Man (Any Gender)- A larger-than-life, jovial character who shows Scrooge the present world around him. Very vaudeville/ability to move well. (ALL VOCAL RANGES)
- Ghost of Christmas Future / Blind Old Hag (Any Gender)- Striking, a silent wraith, must be able to sing as Blind Hag (ALL VOCAL RANGES)
- Fred Anderson (Male Presenting)- Nephew of Scrooge. Compassionate and joyful. (BARITONE)
- Ghost of Jacob Marley (Must be able to move)- The spirit of Scrooge’s old business partner. Good comedic timing. (BARITONE/TENOR)
- Tiny Tim (All genders to play male)- Son of Bob Cratchit. Walks with a cane. Represents the Christmas spirit with hope and goodness. (BOY SOPRANO/TREBLE)
- Fezziwig (Male Presenting)- Jolly and kind. Scrooge’s past employer who helped him get his start. A large presence (CHARACTER SINGER)
- Mrs. Cratchit (Female Presenting)- Wife of Bob. Mother to Tiny Tim, Martha, and the other Cratchit children. Loving, hopeful, and generous. (MEZZO-SOPRANO)
- Mrs. Fezziwig (Female Presenting)- Cheerful wife of Mr. Fezziwig. A bright and lively spirit (STRONG CHARACTER SINGER)
- Young Ebenezer (Male Presenting)- Scrooge as a young man- in love with Emily. Sincere, yet money driven. (BARITONE/TENOR)
- Young Marley (Male Presenting)- Starts business with Scrooge and is a friend to him when they are young (BARITONE/TENOR)
- Emily (Female Presenting)- Scrooge’s former fiancée, airy and bright, Scrooge chooses money over her. (SOPRANO)
- Mr. Smythe (Male Presenting)- Recently widowed. Hopeful. Poor and in debt to Scrooge. Father of Grace. (BARITONE)
- Gracie Smythe (Female Presenting)- Daughter of Mr. Smythe. Sad yet hopeful. (YOUTH VOICE)
- Martha Cratchit (Female Presenting)- Daughter of Bob & Mrs. Cratchit, sister to Tiny Tim. (YOUTH VOICE)
- Sally Anderson (Female Presenting)– Wife of Scrooge’s nephew Fred. Tired of having “Uncle Scrooge” over for Christmas dinner each year.
- Scrooge at 12 (Male Presenting)– Kindhearted, he vows to save his money and make his fortune. (YOUTH VOICE)
- ENSEMBLE- All gender identities, Ages 5-99yr (Vocal Ranges: Bass, Baritone, Tenor, Alto, Mezzo, Soprano) Strong singers, actors, and dancers needed.
- FETAURED ENSEMBLE ROLES: Beadle, Old Joe, Jonathan, Mrs. Mops, Scrooge’s Mother, A large ensemble from which smaller roles will be cast such as : Judge, Scrooge at 8, Scrooge’s father, Scrooge’s mother, Mr. Hawkins, Fan at 10, charity men, townspeople, factory workers, gravediggers, etc. A Christmas Carol has several featured roles and requires a large and diverse ensemble of all vocal types. This is a beautiful ENSEMBLE piece.
Audition Notes:
- Please sign up for ONE SINGING slot and arrive 15 minutes prior to fill out an audition form. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. If you are under 18 you will need a guardian’s signature at the time of auditions. Guardians are free to leave after they have signed audition form. Callbacks will be held on September 3rd. Callback information will be sent out once all auditions have taken place.
- Come prepared to sing a song (not exceeding 32 bars verse & chorus or 1 minute in length) from the show, or in the style of the show, sung by a character you would like to audition for OR that is in your vocal range. Adults should bring sheet music but all levels of talent are welcome.
