The Oak Lawn Park District is home to multiple facilities that offer martial arts programs for adults and kids of all ages and abilities. In the following section, you can learn about each of the classes that we offer. In the registration portal at the bottom of this page, click on “Learn More” to find the class details and requirements.
- Judo- Judo is an Olympic Sport. Our club teaches the Judo philosophy of using minimum effort and maximum efficiency to defeat an opponent. Students will learn the traditional Judo concepts of throwing, grappling, submission and self-defense.

- Kodokan Kids (ages 4-6 years)
- Beginner (ages 5 & up)
- Intermediate/Advanced (ages 6 & up)
- Intermediate/Advanced Adult (ages 15 & up)
- Shotokan Karate- Shotokan Karate is taught under John DiPasquale, a four-time National Champion and President of the American Shotokan Karate Association. In pre-karate young, children will develop flexibility, strength and coordination in fun, yet disciplined activities. In youth/adult karate, they offer a good mix of strength training, with cardiovascular and flexibility exercises.

- Pre-Karate (ages 4-6 years)
- Youth/Adult Karate (ages 7 & up)
- Shorin-Ryu Karate- (ages 13 & up) This class focuses on techniques that can be used in self-defense situations and by security and law enforcement personnel. Training includes performance of traditional Okinawan kata and their applications, takedowns and the use of karate weapons.
- Japanese Swordsmanship- (ages 13 & up) This course covers the modern day version of actual techniques used by the samurai of Japan. Known as “iaido”, it is the translated at drawing and cutting with a single stroke the blade. Wooden swords will be available for use.
