The Oak Lawn Park District is inviting artists from the community to participate in the creation of a series of murals on the walking track at the Community Pavilion. Ultimately, the goal is to capture the diversity and beauty that our village has to offer. A 5’ x 5’ panel will be provided to you to create your portion of the mural. We ask that you prime and paint the panel. Once complete, the Oak Lawn Park District will pick up the panel and install on our walking track. The artwork will be placed on the walking track next to the two existing works of art from:
- Oak Lawn High School Student: Heather Sterling (2024)
- Oak Lawn Resident: Roy McNaughton (2024)
Criteria:
- The mural should reflect the village of Oak Lawn. This could mean people, places, events, nature, etc.
- The mural should not contain advertisements, violence, weapons, drugs, alcohol or illegal substances.
- We will require a rough sketch with a description of your design before approving the agreement.
- The Oak Lawn Park District will have final approval of installation once completed mural is received.
- Artist(s) must be an Oak Lawn resident or be a representative(s) of an Oak Lawn school, business or organization.
- If the Artist is volunteering on their own behalf, they will be required to fill out the Oak Lawn Park District Volunteer Application and submit to a background check.
- Artists will be responsible for supplying their own paint, brushes or other materials and supplies necessary to create their masterpiece.
Dimensions:
- Panel: 5’ x 5’ Birch Plywood
- Frame: The frame will “bleed” into the 5’ x 5’ frame by 3 ¼” all the way around. Please consider this when designing your mural.
- Panel will be delivered and picked up upon completion as long as delivery address is within Oak Lawn city limits.
